Q : How does Reform differ from other relaxers / straighteners?

A: The most important difference is that Reform permanently straightens or relaxes the hair without harsh or harmful chemicals. Reform is NOT a chemical straightener. ALL other traditional thio- and sodium hydroxidebased or Brazilian / Keratin systems use harsh chemicals to break the hair's bonds. Use of these chemicals can pose potential health hazards, as well as have undesired effects on the hair. Because Reform uses no harsh chemicals, it is truly a natural straightener unlike anything else available.

Q: Why is it so important that I follow the directions precisely?

A: Reform is different From anything you have done before. Because Reform contains natural vegan protein and herbal extracts instead of harsh chemicals, YOUR TECHNIQUE is very important. In fact, your technique is the most important part of system success.

Q: Will all of my clients get super-straight hair?

A: No. YOUR TECHNIQUE determines the outcome. Customization is achieved by changing the flatiron heat setting or the number of flatiron passes and the speed of those passes. Usually 2 slow passes are enough to ensure silky straight hair, while 1 pass may result in relaxed waves. Very resistant hair may need 4-5 slow passes to get straight, and 3 passes for relaxing.

Q: Can anyone perform the Reform system?

A: No. This is a professional system only. Because Reform contains no harsh chemicals, SPECIFIC HEAT, plus your PROFESSIONAL SKILL is required. The high specific heat applied consistently to the entire hair shaft is critical to allow the natural components of Reform's ACTIVATOR to do their job and PERMANENTLY straighten the hair.

Q: Can I use Reform on everyone'?

A: While Reform is compatible with virtually all hair types as well as with colour and other chemical processes, we VERV STRONGLY RECOMMEND A SWATCH TEST. Your professional test and opinion regarding hair condition and outcome are essential to your reputation and client's satisfaction. Unfortunately, some client's hair may be too damaged for even Reform to give them the results that they want.

Q: How long do I need to wait to Reform the re-growth?

A: It is best to wait until you have 2-3 inches of growth for re-growth processing.

Q: My client had a different relaxer on her hair previously. Can I use Reform for her re-growth processing?

A: Yes. Reform is compatible with all other chemical straightening systems. You may overlap the previously relaxed, permed, or straightened hair without fear of breakage. It is important to use the re-growth technique found on the DVD that is provided in your Reform kit.

Q: I have Activated the hair, but it dried while I worked. What do I do?

A: Activating only one Section  at a time is recommended. If the Activator dries completely you must re-apply Activator and partly dry the section. You may re-apply the Activator as often as needed while working with Reform.

Q : I completed the first section of hair with Reform, and stopped to check my work with cool water. The hair was not as straight as I want; what do I do?

A: The stop-chceck was designed for you to fine-tune your technique. You have just saved yourself from having to redo the entire head of hair. STOP; evaluate your steps and technique. Simply spray down the section with a water bottle, wash the section lightly and start over.

  • Did you clarify the hair completely? It is sometimes necessary to wash the hair 2-3 times when the hair has a lot of build up, especially if the client uses silicones, petrolatum products or oils for hair smoothing.
  • Did you dry the hair 100% before applying the Activator? Failing to do so will dilute the Activator and will compromise your results.
  • Did you saturate the section completely with a bowl and brush? Failing to do so will compromise your results.
  • Did you pass the iron very slowly? The most common error is when the flatiron is passed too quickly through the hair. Working too quickly will dry the surface of the hair, leaving the bonds unbroken.
  • Did you turn the flatiron on to the correct setting? 450 For coarse or resistant hair, and 430 for fine or mildly damaged hair.
  • Did you flatiron very thin sections? If the sections are too thick, they will not reach the correct temperature, even with a slow flatiron pass.

Q: I performed a consultation and did the Reform process. After rinsing, the hair was not completely straight, but had some light wave left. I followed the proper directions, what went wrong?

A: Your client's hair is most likely resistant. This is most commonly seen with grey and coarse virgin hair. If hair is very resistant it may be necessary to Reform the hair twice. Reform is safe, non-caustic and can be done several I times, so your client's hair is safe. Zerran recommends waiting it least 2 weeks between sessions.

Q: I successfully completed Reform and my client's hair is straight, but drier than normal. What do I do?

A: This may have been avoided in the consultation /swatch test process. If you fail to perform the consultation /swatch test, you risk the hair being overly dry due to previous damage from other sources. (daily use of a flat iron, swimming in a chlorinated pool frequently, multiple prior chemical processes, etc.). Using Redemption two weeks prior to the service will better prepare the hair for Reform. If your consultation was successful and the hair still feels dry, you may continue use of Hair Redemption weekly.

Q: I followed all the steps of Reform properly with a different iron than was sold with my kit. According to the package, my iron reach 450 degrees. My results were not what I had hoped for, what went wrong?

A: Irons often do not heat to claimed levels or don't maintain those levels. Therefore, it is important that you use the iron sold with the kit. Zerran tests flatirons in large batches to ensure consistency. It is best not to take a chance and having to redo your client's hair.

Q : My client's hair was Reformed successfully, but my client is not happy with her new look and would like to put a perm back into her hair. Can I perm my client's hair after Reform?

A: Yes, Reform is compatible with Sodium or Thio based products, so you can perm over Reform. Zerran recommends consultation /swatch testing prior to another service. Don't forget that Reform allows your client to use curling irons, curlers and hot rollers for temporary curls and body without the commitment of a perm.
